Vata by Dr. David FrawleyInside This Issue

Dr. David Frawley

Vayu becomes Vata or the biological air humor in the embodied creature, which is the basis of both health and disease. Vata when calm gives health, while when agitated causes disease.

Vata is the biological principle of movement, energy, change in location, velocity and creation of equilibrium, which sustains the organic network of forces within us down to an autonomic level.

Vata moves Pitta and Kapha, the biological fire and water humors, just as air moves fire and water, creating the vibrations that sustain them, allowing digestion to occur and our tissues to be built up and energized.

Vata dosha is the main life-energy (pranic force) behind health and disease in body and mind. It is air or Vayu as a psycho-physical principle. The body as a material entity adds a factor of doshas, meaning entropy or decay, to Vayu as a cosmic force. Vayu must eventually seek to leave the body and return back to its formless nature, which means that everything that is born must die by the same power of breath.

One must master Vayu in order to master any of the forces in the universe, in the body or in the mind. All healing occurs through the power of Vayu and its Pranic manifestation. By connecting to the cosmic Vayu we can bring in the cosmic prana. That is the key to all higher healing. In Yoga, the higher prana or cosmic Vayu takes us into the realm of immortality by removing our attachment to the body and giving us back our freedom as formless awareness. "Astrological DNA -- Medical Jyotish:" - 90 minutes

Autumn means its time to transition from Pitta programs to Vata pacifying plans. Everything is a combination of Kapha, Pitta and Vata. We find this especially true for those who live where they experience complete seasonal changes. Every sign exhibits the dosha qualities. Each planet has a dominant quality. Each sign has an associated quality. Christina will cover the medical astrological basics; and also present the Medical Drekkana, which are associated with the 36 Drekkana of a Natal chart. Medical issues are such high profile now, as "baby boomers," are aging and epidemics are flourishing. Don't miss this one!

"Mars: Self Determinism in the Cult of Speed" - 90 minutes

Dressed in red, with a red body, who has four arms, the son of the earth, whose vehicle is a ram, who carries a trident, a spear and a mace in his hands, with a coral crest jewel on his head, making the gesture that gives boons, may divine Mars ever grant us grace.”

So, goes the invocation to Mars, whom many astrologers consider to be one of the greater malefic grahas, due to the heraldry of weapons in his capable hands.

Therefore, Mars must be examined carefully for his malfeasance, and his magnificence, for when he brings his results he brings them suddenly. Mars hands are quicker than our eyes as his shock and awe are worshipped in the cult of speed.

Light Notes from Editor Christina Collins

October through February we experience “Vata,” season.

We devote this issue to that season, beginning with the most recent article by Vamadeva (Dr. David Frawley) as our cover story for November.

Medical Astrology - In Jyotish each planet and sign in a chart carries a status of Dosha; Vata, Pitta, Kapha, just as the human (or animal/pet) carries the Doshas in their physical and metaphysical makeup. For example, Mars is Pitta, Jupiter is Kapha. Jyotish is useful for averting the danger that has not yet come. It can get you to the Doctor or healer when a particular transit or Dasa time period, might trigger your chart for illness. Even when a transit makes you accident prone you can lesson suffering by taking “precautionary measures, “ if you have the information in a timely manner.

Precautionary measures can mean a wide range of realities. It can mean improving your health by working on your own individual and hereditary risk factors. It might mean expanding the amount of time you spend in prayer and meditation. It might mean taking time off to smell the roses. - Read the complete November Light Notes

Monthly Planetary Tips

Planetary Tips November 1st to December 1st 2009

Every month, as the ACVA news observes the sidereal month's changing of signs, we use the current location of the US Capital, Washington, DC.

We begin the month with Sandi nodes of 00' 21 as Ketu retrogrades from Cancer to Gemini and Rahu from Capricorn to Sagittarius.

As the nodes leave Water and Earth signs you should notice an increase in world wide disasters, high magnitude earthquakes, bombings, explosions. As they enter their new stations in Air and Fire signs they bring the potential of air and fire type disasters (planes, explosions) beginning now and as they move across on November 2nd. This drama additionally increases due to the fact that Venus will be 29'39 Virgo (debilitation sandi) at the same time in an exact Kendra (square) from both nodes. Venus is the karaka (significator) for vehicles.  Read Complete November Tips

Letters to the Editor by Christina Collins

Dear Juliana

Thank you, Juliana for a lovely presentation! I think it worked very nicely, from my muted perspective, to simply take-in your information, and let you unroll the information according to your screen shots. (Without our echo-y questions, etc.) Well organized, and visually useful graphics.

I also *loved* your comment that you like looking at round charts! Me too.

This is one of the benefits of "shruti" - hearing you in real time. It's almost heretical in the Vedic square world - but is *so* much easier to visualize - round charts.

It was tough for me to read the North Indian style chart you presented, though. One can turn a South Indian chart into a circle, using some imagination. That's how I manage.

Also , most important object lesson for me was to see the Hakini Mudra (loved it!) and to observe the prayers.

Thank you, Delightful Being of Light!

Your fan, Charlotte - [Julianna's webinar]

Monthly Vastu Tips

November Vastu Tip

Jyotish, Ayurveda, and Vastu provide remedies to "avert the danger that has not yet arisen." Since Vastu's guidelines are essentially the laws of nature, it enables us to gain support of nature rather than to have what seems like more obstacles thrown in our path. Ayurveda, the science of life, gives knowledge for health. As the science of design and architecture, Vastu gives knowledge for the health of buildings, which profoundly affects our health, happiness, and prosperity - and the health of the environment. Jyotish gives knowledge of cosmic influences on our emotions, relationships, prosperity, career, and health. Applying Vastu recommendations helps protect us from negative influences in all of these areas as well. - Read Complete - November Vastu Tip

Autumn has Arrived! and Fortifying Immunity with Ayurveda

Autumn begins the Vata Season.

Temperatures become cooler, the air becomes drier, the wind becomes blowing and gusty, the leaves fall, and the days get shorter.

Ayurveda understands that to remain healthy, we must stay in harmony with the cycles of nature.

During Vata season we must make extra effort to include warm, nurturing activities as part of our daily routine.

The following are three simple ways to start your day, that will help keep Vata in balance:

Vrksasana - Tree Pose

Although autumn is traditionally the beginning of vata or windy season, the challenge of feeling scattered and ungrounded seems to be true for all seasons and doshas these days. Yoga poses that involve balancing are a way of finding centeredness at the emotional and mental levels of our being by activating the cerebellum (motor coordination, balance, attention), releasing stress and tension while strengthening the nervous system. - Read More - November Yoga Tip
