Sun Ingress to Cancer for July 15 to August 16 2009
Every month, as the ACVA news observes the sidereal month’s changing of signs, we use the current location of the US Capital, Washington, DC.
July 15 2009 the Sun changes to Cancer
As the sun moves into watery Cancer, at 00’ we will see it closely combust Mercury, who resides in Cancer at 2’43. Moon, the ruler of Cancer will be in the 10th angle from the Sun, in hot, fiery Aries in the Ketu ruled Nakshatra of Ashwini – giving a Ketu Vimshottari Dasa to begin the month. Mercury and the Moon rule the sub periods.
This combination of Sun, transiting 12th from its home, Leo, combusting the Mercury/Ketu conjunction in Cancer, along with the Moon in Aries, and Mars in Taurus (in the Sun’s star Krittika), and Venus connecting to the Moon energy in the star of Rohini is a volatile combination. The mind, Moon – and the intellect – Mercury can lend great intuition to the mind of an individual, add the conjunction of Ketu, the planet that connects us to the “other side,” or to intuition -- this combination with the associations of Moon – travel, Mars – feeling of speed and urgency, and Venus, though in her own sign, still the karaka (significator) for vehicles makes this an extremely unsafe day for travel on the 16th and 17th of July.. Particularly challenges with water travel and boating.
Healing, lucky Jupiter, with little strength at 72% in shad bala, lends little support as it is rapidly retrograding back towards its sign of debilitation in Capricorn and currently aspects only Saturn, by opposition, though Saturn still sits in Leo, the house owed by the Sun. (And that is not helpful to the Sun, and Saturn is the son of the Sun, and they are great enemies. – note that Sun moving 12th from Saturn means people born in the next 3 months, will be born in Surya Sadi Sati which, depending upon the chart, can give health difficulties, and difficulties to the father.)
July 21st -- Jupiter Rx back into Sandi status, at 00'60, (as Moon in Gemini, also transits Sandi at 29’ moving into Cancer and forming the eclipse of the sun which occurs on the 22nd July.
July 22, total Eclipse of the Sun will occur over Asia.
RA and KT will be 6’13 and the Sun 6’14
The recommendation during eclipses is to stay inside, fast, do sadhana (spiritual practices as a goal towards realization), meditate, and to stay within. As this eclipse is a Total eclipse of the Sun, pregnant women should stay inside. If you want to know what the path looks like, this NASA link to an animated version of this eclipse: http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEanimate/SEanimate2001/SE2009Jul22T.GIF
- Eclipse Path will go through India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar and China
- Eclipse will continue through Southern Japan and the Marshall Islands.
- http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEmono/TSE2009/TSE2009.html is the official NASA website with great maps and weather reports that tell whether cloudiness will hamper viewing. Having stated this, note that it is not considered wise to EVER look directly at the sun. And, Ayurvedically, we don’t look directly at eclipses (loss of energy) though we DO look at the full moon. Unless it is affected by an eclipse (Rahu and Ketu, the nodes of the moon are Upa Grahas. or shadow grabbers. They form when the earth moves into position in relationship to the sun and moon, and casts a shadow. The additional difficulty at the time of this eclipse, (which can cause earthquakes, and fires and large scale disasters) is that Mars, located in the earth sign of Taurus is aspecting Saturn transiting in the fire sign of Leo. When Mars transits in an earth sign, it generally increases fires, when it also aspects Saturn while in transit in an earth sign, it increases earth changes due to planetary war!
You can also view the path on Google maps.
July 26th -- Venus moves into Gemini and though both are Sandi, Venus will receive the aspect of Jupiter from 00’ Aquarius.
July 30th -- Jupiter retrogrades back into Capricorn to conjunct Rahu. While retrograde it is neecha banga raja yoga (cancellation of debilitation) until it goes direct on October 13th.
July 30th -- Mercury moves into Leo with Saturn.
August 10th -- Mars will exactly aspect Saturn at 26’26 from Taurus, by its 4th aspect. This difficult transit will be experienced for the prior 2 weeks as well for it is said that a planet “casts a shadow,” and as an
exact by degree aspect occurs, it is often felt or experienced a few days before it becomes exact by degree.
August 14 – Mars Sandi at 29 Taurus
August 14 – Full Moon in Capricorn prenumbral eclipse. Its magnitude will be quite low at only 0.402 so it will not be visible to the naked eye. The presence of Jupiter’s conjunction with the moon creating a form of Gaja Keseri yoga will improve the nature of this lunar eclipse.
August 16 – Mars moves to 00 Gemini where it aspects Rahu (not so good) and Jupiter (a friend).
August 16– Sun Sandi as it moves to Leo
