Featured Jyotish Vic Di Cara

By Angela Pennington

Vic Di CaraBeing involved in underground music, I came into contact with radical religious and spiritual ideas at a young age. In 1988 I got the Isha Upanishad from a musician at a concert and my life changed radically. Inspired to do more outspoken, philosophical music I entered a band called Inside Out - the singer was Zack de la Rocha (of Rage Against the Machine). This escalated and soon I moved into a brahmacary ashrama (living in temples without possessions, shaving the head, strictly observing vows like celibacy, etc.). Sri Guru appeared. He is Sripad Dhanurdhara Swami. I went to live in V??davana India to study with him for several months at a time, several years in a row. Outside of India I traveled with
him almost always, serving him in my small capacity and learning from him to the best of my poor ability.

Gurudev granted me the name Vraja Kishor das, and the sacred thread symbolic of brahminical qualification, and diksha in various important gayatri mantras for attaining Samadhi in Krsna Bhakti. Gurudeva taught me to practice mantra not just by chanting but by living the mantra. This has shaped my approach to remedial mantra therapy. He taught me how to study Veda not just by rote and memorization but by deeply understanding the fundamental principles and not isolating any one verse from its context and principles. This allowed me to understand the jyotish sastras in a uniquely holistic and meaningful manner. He taught me the fundamentals of Sanskrit, the Bhagavad Gita, and the Bhagavat Purana. Without this I would not have a framework in which to easily understand the instructions of the classical Jyotish gurus. He also educated me in several ancillary brahminical subjects of the Veda - particularly ayurveda and astrology. Though not specifically an astrologer himself, he made several predictions about my horoscope, all of which were accurate.

On his order, I formed a Krsna Conscious hardcore punk band, "108." We made several very heavy, dark bhakti records and toured around the world several times. I was made the head of the ISKCON Hare Krishna temple in Towaco, New Jersey - which we used as the first North American branch of the Vrindavana Institute for Higher Education. Gurudev made me the Headmaster and under his guidance I systematically taught Bhagavad-Gita & Bhakti-Rasamrita Sindhu.

In 1997 I married and began a family (we now have two boys and twins on the way) My wife is also a guru to me. Following her direction, in 2007 I began to operate publicly as an astrologer.

I give readings, muhurtas, consultations. the whole 9 yards. And I teach courses, tutor, publish articles, make videos and write books.
