|Gary Gomes holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and a Master's degree in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts and is a doctoral candidate in education (Ed.D.) at Northeastern University, one of the top 100 schools in the United States. He has worked in local and state government since 1975, after, in a fit of practicality, turning down a chance to be a music promoter offered by John Coltrane bassist Reggie Workman after he graduated college. Gary has been interested in spiritual life since the late 1960's, approaching it first through musicians like John Cage and John Coltrane. Gary was initiated into Transcendental Meditation in 1989, and started studying Jyotisha a year later at the TM Center in Cambridge, MA. After this initial training, he started plumbing through the classical texts himself and studied with the great Indian astrologer K.N. Rao in 1995. Concurrently, he studied Reiki and Kriya, becoming a Reiki Master and a Swami of the Temple of Kriya Yoga lineage in 1996. Since 1994, he has attended and spoken at many conferences, including ACVA, BAVA, Grass Valley Jyotisha, UAC 2008, and the Arsha Vidya Gurukulum in Pennsylvania. From 2004-2010 he was Vice-President, then President of the Council of Vedic Astrology. His written work on Jyotish has occurred in the ACVA Journal, Mountain Astrologer,and Express Starteller (India), NCGR publications, among others. He was also editor of the CVA Journal and guest editor on Jyotish for Ayurveda Journal Gary lives in New Bedford, MA with his lovely wife, Jeannie (C.J.) and their clowder of cats, works out of their store Crystal Expectations (www.crystalexpectations.net) as well as working for state government in education and finishing his doctoral coursework. He does readings, teaches Jyotisha through a variety of outlets (Kepler College, Dirah Academy, CVA) and has been an ACVA instructor since close to the start of the online program. Gary was recognized in 1998 by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in India for his contributions to Jaimini astrology, a unique system of astrology attributed to Sage Jaimini.
