ACVA’s New Direction: 2010 and Beyond

ACVA is now an online school primarily focused on providing internet based classroom instruction in Vedic astrology (Jyotish). ACVA Online course graduates complete a course of study which qualifies them for taking a final web-based comprehensive exam leading to an online Certification in Vedic astrology. This certification is not a license to tutor, as in the past, but a proclamation that the certificate holder has completed a valuable course of study in Vedic astrology. The availability of the online examination will be announced in the Summer of 2010 or sooner.

Credit

Going forward, only classroom credit gained from completion of ACVA Online courses will apply towards eligibility for the new ACVA Online exam and certification. This comprehensive online course of studies is certificate seeking and self contained. It follows a well defined syllabus and is guided by ACVA Online trained online instructors.

As such, ACVA Online certification eligibility no longer will be supplemented by teaching modalities previously accepted by ACVA under the former tutor-led learning model. The former tutor-led approach included such things as studying with ACVA certificate holders who were permitted to tutor new learners for additional hours of course credit. These qualifying hours accumulated towards a total of 600 + hours of learning credits. The former learning approach was offered or provided by adjunct private tutors and classes. While holding an ACVA Level I or II certificate, these tutors were allowed to teach without any further qualifications for instructing others in Vedic astrology. A formal educational process for qualification of instructors via a teacher training course is now part of the new ACVA Online model. The former certification model involved listening to audio tapes and was further supplemented by attending external workshops and conferences, both by formerly ACVA sponsored events, and in some cases with other associations and organizations. Certain correspondence courses in Vedic astrology were also accepted for learning credit.

Certificate holders from the former ACVA tutor-led learning model can still take pride in having accomplished the course of studies that earned them their certificate and title of ACVA Certified Level I and/or Level II graduates. Certificate holders of the former ACVA model can also continue to tutor students, but not for ACVA Online credit under the new ACVA Online model.

New ACVA Online 2010 Policies

  • From 2010 onward, outside, non-ACVA sponsored, externally provided studies, correspondence courses, and workshops will no longer count towards ACVA Online certification. These external learning resources are still useful for personal education and development but will no longer qualify for ACVA Online credit towards certification.

  • Going forward in 2010, credit hours from tutor-led studies, attending classes external to ACVA Online, conferences, or listening to audio tapes, no longer applies towards ACVA Online certification.
