Frequently Asked Questions

New ACVA Online Learning Model and Policies
Effective April, 2010 - Page Four

Will ACVA be keeping a larger vision of promoting Jyotish in an inclusive manner, honoring all their teachers and members of the community?
  • ACVA is a non-profit educational organization. Its mission is to provide quality education in Vedic astrology. There is another organization, CVA or the Council of Vedic Astrology which acts as a membership organization to help its members promote their work and that of Vedic astrology in general. ACVA as a school, driven by IRS regulations cannot be an educational organization and a professional membership organization at the same time. This was one of the reasons that CVA was created and community can be built through that organization. We encourage you to support it in its mission to promote Jyotish in the West and produce a Journal of Vedic Astrology to promote writers, offer advertising, and collect membership dues to support itself.

I am concerned about the list of ACVA certified teachers and tutors being removed from the ACVA website, and all recordings of any teachers other than the current teachers of the school being removed from the store.
  • ACVA, with its limited resources going forward, had to temporarily close the ACVA Store. We recently re-opened the store with a select few MP3 format recordings only. The focus has been on historically best selling speakers and recordings that are needed for learning material in the online classrooms. We do not have the staff to continue to duplicate and provide audio cassette tapes. We are attempting to convert about a dozen or so of the best selling tapes to MP3 each month and offer them for sale in the ACVA Store.

I have a number of tapes recorded of lectures that I gave for ACVA in the past. I want to get copies of those. How do I do that?
  • Currently, ACVA does not have the staff or funding to provide duplication services for tapes in the ACVA library. In the past, each speaker was given a copy of their lecture tapes for their own use. At least in the short term, former speakers will have to use their own cassettes for their own public distribution.

Will ACVA still accept tutorial credits from anyone who is not currently a teacher of the school?
  • With a few exceptions for students in transition from the old to new ACVA Online learning model, ACVA Online will not be accepting course credits from any tutors, both within ACVA and by teachers outside ACVA.

What is the benefit of getting the new ACVA Online Level I and Level certification?
  • At this point in the field of Vedic astrology training, there is really no industry-wide quality control on the curriculum that astrologers use for the training they provide. ACVA has a quality controlled, structured curriculum developed by a team of degreed educators who are also experienced Vedic astrologers. ACVA’s curriculum has been refined and improved over the last several years leading to a high satisfaction rating from student surveys. The syllabus and course design that ACVA uses has been modeled off some of best online educational institutions in the world today. Having a certificate from ACVA tells the world that you have studied with a reputable organization and as such your certificate has value in promoting your career as an astrologer and indicates that you have been well trained in your craft as an astrologer.
