President's Message

Spring 2013

By William Levacy, Ph.D.

"Science has never drummed up quite as effective a tranquilizing agent as a sunny spring day." -- W. Earl Hall

While our attention is drawn to the increasing beauty of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, we don't want to forget a special value being brought to us at this time by our old friend Shani, the planet Saturn. Saturn is the planet of rhythm, structure, consistency, and order. In the Vedic astrology sidereal system, Saturn will be retrograde in Libra from February 19 to July 7 of this year. Saturn Rx will provide a counterpoint to the energy and enthusiasm brought on by the renewing energy of spring. With Saturn Rx we will be getting an opportunity to redefine and recapture the structure that we need to
guide the spontaneity and rapid growth characteristic of the spring season. In effect, we can look at the influence of Saturn at this time as allowing us to put our life into the balance of Libra coming forward into the energy of spring.

In this issue of the ACVA e News, we have many important events to announce. We get to honor A.B. Shukla, President of the Indian Council of Vedic Astrology with our annual Jyotish Navaratna award for his contributions to the field of Vedic astrology. I, as a lifelong learner, continued my educational journey by submitting my recently completed doctoral dissertation to an international competition for Distinguished Dissertation of the Year—I’m pleased to say I came in 2nd in this global competition. We want to celebrate with our new Level II graduate, Karina Weil…another fine student of the ACVA Online learning system. We have Angela and Manoj fine writers and former ACVA learners, contributing articles on Nimitta or Omens and the mechanics of the Spring Equinox. Manoj has also contributed a great cartoon on a timely subject of interest to Vedic astrologers.

We also want to celebrate the soon to be launched Vedic Astrology Coaching™ (VAC) certification course. This is a great way to learn how to incorporate modern Life Coaching principles with the practice of Vedic astrology. Early reviews are quite positive. We encourage all Level II graduates to attend this new Level III course offering.

Finally, I want to thank all the ACVA volunteers, donors, and instructors who have put their “spring” of energy and their Saturnine focus to help ACVA sustain its mission to teach Vedic astrology around the world. It will be a lovely spring for everyone!

Happy Vasanta,
Dr. Bill
